Bududa Learning Center is an umbrella organization that includes a vocational high school, an orphans program for children, and a microfinance program for women. It is located in the isolated mountain district of eastern Uganda. It was founded by Canadian-born Barbara Wybar, who has been living on site a portion of each year for the past 14 years. This isolated region, one of the poorest in Uganda, is over-populated with most families having an average of 8 children. They live by growing their own food. Most of the region has no running water or electricity. Both the education and health care system are severely under-funded and inadequate. Jobs are scarce. Most people are hungry most of the time. How & Who We Help. We work to address the problems in three ways: 1. Training young people in basic trades: carpentry; brick-laying; dress-making and tailoring; nursery teacher training; computer skills training; and hairdressing training. 2. Providing broad support to 170 children and young people, many of them orphans from AIDS, by providing education enrichment, food, and health care. 3. Training and providing micro finance loans to single mothers and grandmothers in the region who are bringing up children on their own and have no means of support, so they can start small businesses. How It Is Run The Center is staffed by Ugandans working in a professional capacity. Barbara Wybar acts as Executive Director and works in a volunteer capacity. There is a growing volunteer contingent of people from the west who visit and do volunteer work there and others who take on management and administrative work in Canada and the US in a volunteer capacity. A guest house and annex provide housing for up to 12 visiting volunteers at a time. Local Oversight A local Advisory Board of the Center, led by Father Paul Buyela, provides oversight to the headmaster of the school and the directors of the two other programs. It is made up of representatives of the teachers, the parents, the regional education board, and the community as well as the executive director. The chairman is a highly respected educator as well as clerical leader in the region at large. Governance and Financial Support Bududa Canada Foundation provides governance to the Center and raises funds from individuals, foundations, and organizations to support the Center. It is incorporated in Canada holds charitable status from the Canadian Revenue Authority (#82535 8286 RR0001). There is a board directors of five people, three of whom are Canadian and two American. Financial support comes from Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The Advocacy Project - A Voice for the Voiceless The Advocacy Project (AP) helps marginalized communities around the world take action against the root causes of their disempowerment in a way that benefits society as a whole and produces social change. To do this, we partner with community-based advocates who represent these communities and share their problems. Our support for partners is innovative and effective. First, we deploy Peace Fellows (experienced graduate students) to help partners tell their story, launch campaigns, and strengthen their organization: we have deployed 274 Peace Fellows since 2003, and in the process given our Fellows a unique experience. Second, we help partners to raise funds and manage their campaigns: we have raised over $2.5 million for partners, and are currently seeking funds through Global Giving for exciting projects in Nepal, Vietnam and Uganda. Third, we promote the work of partners internationally, using new methods of story-telling such as advocacy quilting: over 300 women have produced embroidered panels for our quilts, which have been shown throughout North America and Europe. Who is Limye Lavi? What does Limye Lavi do? Limye Lavi is a Haitian organization that has been in existence since 1993. It works with marginalized communities in Haiti, especially those that are the most rural. Its mission is to work together with other organizations to help people in the most marginalized communities to cultivate the types of education and experiences that are based on respect and dignity, and which lead to autonomy. Limye Lavi works with all types of people, without distinction, particularly people from marginalized communities. Limye Lavi's main goal is to help the communities it works with to organize themselves and develop strategies so that: - all children in the community attend school and receive a quality education ; - community members neither send children to, nor receive children from the restavek system ; - the rights of all children are respected ; - communities produce more agricultural products and apply good techniques to increase income and improve economic living standards. Fondasyon Limye Lavi's work is focused in 3 main areas: Education, Protection and Defense of Children's Rights, and Agricultural / Economic Accompaniment. 1- Education Limye Lavi holds in-services for teachers and school directors, organizes rural schools into networks to meet together and create solutions for the educational problems experienced in the rural communities, organize themselves to defend children's rights, and work so that all children can go to school and receive a quality education. It incorporates a Match system to help schools cover their budgets, Book Banks so students can have books to study, and Accelerated Programs so older children who haven't had the chance to go to school can benefit from a good education. Limye Lavi also holds trainings for adults in the community to raise parents' awareness of how they can become more effectively involved in their children's education. 2-Protection and Defense of Children's Rights Specifically to protect and defend children's rights, Limye Lavi works to eliminate the restavek system (child labor system) in the rural communities. It holds trainings for community members about children's and youth's rights. It helps communities create committees to defend and protect children's rights, and accompanies the committees in helping the most vulnerable children in the communities, especially those children who return to the rural communities from being in the child labor (restavek) system. 3-Agricultural/Economic Accompaniment To help the communities increase their agricultural production and raise more money to function, Limye Lavi holds trainings focused on money management and agricultural techniques, and accompanies them in improving their planting and technical skills, taking better care of their gardens, and developing economic activities to increase agricultural production, save money and manage credit programs among themselves. Limye Lavi specifically uses methods that are built on participation, that allow people to share ideas and respect each other, develop tolerant and democratic spirits among themselves, and which develop collective ideas and shared leadership in the communities. It develops and uses methods such as: Reflection Circles, Open Space, ESK (Edikayson se yon Konvesasyon- Education is a Conversation), etc.

Girls Education Mission International was emerged out of a pressing need among young women and girls who face gender-based discrimination and are therefore deprived of education and training opportunities to attain a better life. Our program seeks to serve the regions and population groups of Bulgaria that are economically and socially challenged via a multi-faceted strategy of: 1. Marketplace entry for disadvantaged Bulgarians, meaning: socially disadvantaged citizens of any ethnic background - Roma, Pomak and Bulgarian. 2. Positive, observable business and community citizenship. 3. Sustainability of the current businesses - through our ongoing business consultancy our goal is to help already running and existing businesses pass the 18-months barrier and continue operating in a positive financial balance with potential to expand. Uniqueness of the Cornerstone Program: Business training and consultancy is available in Bulgaria, but it is fee based and thus socially disadvantaged people do not have the financial means to benefit from it. Our program is unique that is offers professional training and consultancy for free to socially disadvantaged people. Most other organizations offer training and consultancy mainly in the big cities. We conduct our trainings in the small towns and villages and we visit the businesses at their facility, thus they do not have to travel. Due to the relatively small loan amounts needed by our clients, they are often vulnerable to predatory lenders for their business loans. Cornerstone provides consultation to help avoid financing with predatory lenders.

The Value proposition is that Girl Scouts is where girls find their voices and make them matter. The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland has served the Metropolitan area since 1962. In the ensuing five decades, the neighborhoods and communities of Baltimore City and certain surrounding counties have changed. The GSCM has endeavored to change to be responsive to these changing demographics and keep current with the needs of girls in Central Maryland. GSCM conducted extensive research into the needs of girls and young women who live in Baltimore City. The families in these areas are typically single-parent families with income levels near the poverty line. Many parents work more than one job to make ends meet. And then there is the special group of girls, often forgotten, who are separated from their mother for reasons over which they had no control. Delivering the extra-curricular activities that are necessary for girls to achieve later in life is a founding principle and goal of Girl Scouts of Central Maryland. This includes learning the real meaning behind the Girl Scout Law of "I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout. In underserved communities there is a lack of availability of programs, and lack of transportation. GSCM intends to continue to fill this void with its Beyond Bars program and needs your support to assure we can continue to transport girls from their neighborhoods to the facility which houses their mother. Overall, for the entire council, the goals for 2015-2018 were established for a target population of girls in kindergarten through 12th grade, the goals and are: (a) to empower a culturally diverse population of girls through engagement in a Girl Scout leadership pathway; (b) to increase the reach of GSCM's programs and unique experiences by enrolling an increased number of girls, particularly girls from underserved communities, as members of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland; and (c) to recruit, screen and orient new and existing adult volunteers, who are guided and trained to mentor a culturally diverse Girl Scout population.
