DBSA pursues and accomplishes this mission through peer-based, recovery-oriented, empowering services and resources when people want them, where they want them, and how they want them."  The organization fosters an environment of understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing up-to-date, scientifically based tools and information, written in easy to understand language. DBSA has more than 1,000 peer-run support groups across the country. Assisted by a Scientific Advisory Board, comprised of the leading researchers and clinicians in the field of mood disorders, DBSA supports research to promote more timely diagnoses, to develop more effective and tolerable treatments and to discover a cure. The Alliance works to ensure that people living with mood disorders are treated equitably. Over five million people request and receive information and assistance from DBSA each year.

Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence (CA)

Next Door Solutions’ (NDS) mission is to end domestic violence in the moment… and for all time by helping survivors rebuild their lives. NDS serves women and children who are financially, ethnically and linguistically diverse: • Crisis Services: 24/7 Emergency Shelter and Hotline – women and children receive safe haven from abuse, and safety planning and other supportive services; callers seeking crisis counseling, vital information and referrals receive an immediate live voice response by a highly trained bilingual English/Spanish Advocate. • Community and Systems Advocacy - clients receive peer counseling, safety plan development, legal advocacy, and assurance and comfort. • Support Groups - Women connect and create a healing environment for each other through 16 groups throughout the county • Self-Sufficiency Program – women empower themselves and enhance their financial independence and self-sufficiency through comprehensive, compassionate, woman-defined case management, workshops in financial literacy, job readiness, and educational advancement, and permanent housing.

NAMI, the acronym for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is a grass-roots, education, support and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of families who have relatives with a brain disorder (mental illness). The Westside LA chapter is one of a number of affiliates of both the NAMI California and the NAMI National organizations in Los Angeles county. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need. NAMI was founded in 1979 by 254 caring people and now has grown to more than 210,000 members in over 1,200 affiliate groups in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico , the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Guam. NAMI is getting stronger every day. In fact, Worth Magazine recently ranked NAMI in its “Top 100 charities most likely to change the world”.
