LEA works to protect and restore the high water quality of lakes, ponds, rivers, streams and wetlands in western Maine and to maintain the integrity of their watersheds. It was established in 1979 as an organization with no political, ideological, or religious affiliation. AAR currently has offices in 10 countries.
