Lake Leelanau Lake Association

To make the body of water know as Lake Leelanau a better place to live.  To establish on-going programs to promote and protect the best interest and uses of riparian owners, boaters, fisherman, bathers and all other parties who have access to this body of water.  In doing so, the Association will review and respond to all issues relating to the protection and preservation of the Lake Leelanau environment, the surrounding land and water, including issues regarding safety, and recreational enjoyment of the lake.  In addition, the Association will address issues related to governmental regulation and taxation, and will review all property development proposals to determine what impact the projects could have on the riparian owners and users of Lake Leelanau.

The Burt Lake Preservation Association’s goal is the preservation and improvement of Burt Lake and its watershed for quality use by future generations. To do this we will unify the lake community to confront the key issues involving the lake and its watershed. Working in cooperation with federal, state, and local government entities, educational institutions, foundations, conservancies, and other resources, the Burt Lake Preservation Association (BLPA) will contribute financial and human resources to fulfill this goal.

The Kalamazoo Nature Center is a not-for-profit organization located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our mission is to create relationships & experiences that welcome and inspire people to discover, enjoy, value, and care for nature. KNC envisions a resilient community where all people have strong interconnections with the natural world. KNC was founded October 31, 1960 when a group of community leaders came together to purchase the land to establish an outdoor environmental education center. Today, KNC is recognized by its peers as one of the top nature centers in the country and has expanded to include 1,100 acres of wooded, rolling countryside five miles north of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Michigan Audubon is Michigan's oldest conservation organization whose mission is to connect birds and people for the benefit of both. Established in 1904, it provides opportunities for individuals, families, and children to understand and promote bird conservation in Michigan through education, research, and conservation projects. These projects include maintaining over 3500 acres of sanctuary property that provide habitat for birds and other wildlife, citizen science research projects, and education activities. Michigan Audubon maintains partnerships with state and federal agencies, its affiliate the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory, and environmental non-profit organizations and grassroots projects across the state of Michigan.

"Since 1974, the Our World-Underwater Scholarship Society™ has provided firsthand experiences in underwater-related disciplines to young people considering careers in the underwater world. Each year a scholar is selected from North America, Europe, and Australasia to work with leaders in marine-related fields partaking in endeavors ranging from scientific expeditions, underwater research, field study, laboratory assignments, equipment testing and design, photographic instruction, and/or other specialized assignments. Scholars spend a year traveling extensively to gain exposure and get hands-on experiences in activities that will contribute to a well-rounded education. Each year, the incoming interns and scholars are provided with membership in the Explorers Club."
