We take these urban kids and bring them to our Lakeside wilderness location in Newmarket and offer them experiences that make them feel like part of a family. We help hundreds of kids develop practical skills, relevant knowledge and self-confidence. We concentrate on prevention rather than rehabilitation. In this way Trails builds trust and confidence and has a real influence on the direction of youths' lives.

From the early 1830s to 1998, thousands of First Nation, Inuit and Métis children were forced to attend residential schools in an attempt to assimilate them into the dominant culture. Those children suffered abuses of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit that can be almost unimaginable. Over 150,000 children, some as young as four years old, attended the government-funded and church-run residential schools. It is estimated that there are 80,000 residential school Survivors alive today. We develop innovative, unique, and effective educational programming on residential schools and the long-term effects they have on Survivors, their families, and their communities. Accessed by hundreds of thousands of Canadians, these resources include websites, travelling exhibitions, secondary school curriculum, and an oral history collection of Survivor testimony.

The British Columbia Law Institute was created in January 1997 by incorporation under the Provincial Society Act. It is the effective successor to the British Columbia Law Reform Commission which ceased operations that year. BCLI carries out scholarly research, writing and analysis for law reform, collaborating with government and other entities, and providing materials and support for outreach and public information. In 2003 BCLI created the Canadian Centre for Elder Law (CCEL) as a vehicle to carry forward its work in relation to legal issues affecting seniors. CCEL is a response to the need in Canada for a body that has a dedicated focus on this area to facilitate the development of Elder Law as a coherent body of knowledge. Sandy Pines Wildlife Cntre, located in Napanee Ontario, is a licensed Wildlife rehabilitation centre covering an area from Toronto to Montreal and North to Ottawa. We take in all injured and orphaned animals and birds that are native to Ontario. Our facility is located on 60 acres of land with a hospital area and outdoor caging an flight aviaries. We hire staff in the summer but the centre is staffed by volunteers throughout the year. We are open 24/7 for emergencies and phone calls.

Support Means Success Autism Nova Scotia supports individuals with autism, their families, educators, healthcare professionals and researchers. We provide information materials, research assistance and a friendly atmosphere to support our members in their desire to understand autism. With an improved understanding, they can make informed decisions for a positive impact on their own lives or the person in their care with autism. By providing parents and people with autism with information that can help them seek more effective therapy and support options, a teacher with a strategy that can foster better inclusion in the classroom, or an autistic adult with leads to an employment opportunity, greater successes for individuals with autism and their caregivers can be achieved. Therapeutic Paws of Canada is a national Non-Profit volunteer organization providing dog and cat visitation resources for human needs (physical, mental, educational, motivational, and socialization) through regular visits to hospitals, residences, schools, etc.

Food4Kids provides backpacks of healthy food for kids with limited or no food during weekend periods. Packages of healthy foods are prepared off-site by volunteers and delivered to schools each Friday to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend. Each food package contains kid friendly, non-perishable and easy to prepare meals with maximum nutrient value. For many children, hunger is not an occasional missed meal... it is a way of life. Children are often helpless in controlling the food supply in their homes. Food4Kids ensures children lacking food are provided with nourishment vital to their physical, emotional, cognitive, social and academic success. The cost per backpack is $10.00 or $400 to feed a child for an entire school year.

Everyone needs help at some time- our goal is to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable street youth here in Vancouver. The H.E.L.P. Scholarship Fund gives street youth the chance at a better life through education, skills learning and apprenticeship.
