Scouting has an important role in the lives of today’s youth. Scouting promotes the importance of values such as integrity, honesty, responsibility, patriotism, courtesy, perseverance, cooperation, tolerance, teamwork, leadership and respect for community, nature and spirituality. In the 2008-2009 Scouting year, for the first time in a quarter of a century, membership in Scouting across Canada has increased. We are working hard so that more youth have the opportunity to benefit from a Scouting experience. As the organization grows, more and more youth in need of financial assistance are identified.

Founded in 1983, the BBPA is a non-profit, charitable organization that addresses equity and opportunity for the Black community in business, employment, education and economic development. The BBPA sponsors the annual BBPA Harry Jerome Awards, a national awards event that recognizes and honours excellence in achievement and supports higher education through the BBPA Harry Jerome Scholarship Fund. In addition the BBPA provides networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and professionals.

Since 1983 Children's Place has offered a wide range of flexible, accessible, FREE early learning & family support programs. Today we serve over 2000 families from 11 different locations in central west Toronto. Programs include: family drop-ins, child development activities focusing on & exploring senses & developing motor skills, occasional childcare, community outreach, family literacy, food & nutrition support, parent & caregiver support & education, peer contact & mutual support, play & recreation, health & safety promotion, information about & referrals to other resources, toy & book lending. Our staff and volunteers are able to communicate in different languages including English, Portuguese, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Somali, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu & Italian. Participants include: young children 0 to 6, parents, expectant parents, very young parents, parents/caregivers/children with special needs, grandparents, nannies & home providers, newcomer & immigrant families.

Lanark County Interval House is a shelter and support network for women and their children who have experienced abuse. We work with women & children across Lanark County Ontario including the towns of Carleton Place, Smiths Falls, Perth, Almonte and all of the rural areas in between. Our emergency shelter accommodates 15 women and children at one time. Here we provide a 24-hr help/crisis line, safety, counselling for both women and children and advocacy to help women navigate systems on her journey to a successful violent-free life. Our Outreach programs provide counselling, advocacy and diverse support groups for women and children affected by abuse and sexual violence. Our public education program provides workshops, presentations, and resources to our communities and schools about violence against women, healthy relationships, and gender roles and stereotypes. We work towards ending the cycle of violence against women and children.

The Alzheimer Society Sarnia-Lambton offers education, caregiver respite, support services & resource materials to people with Alzheimer's disease or releated dementias, family members, caregivers and service providers. Currently, there are over 2,500 people in Lambton County with dementia. This number is expected to triple in the next 25 years.

The Huntsman has been an active steward of the ocean resource by finding ways to educate citizens about the oceans for the past 40 years. The education programs of the Huntsman have been pioneering; knowledge-based activities that have influenced the development of highly qualified personnel in the marine sciences and the oceans industry sector of the Canadian economy. The hands-on school programs have engaged over 35,000 students - ranging from elementary school age to university graduate level. For many, it is their first introduction to the Canadian Atlantic region.

The Nalanda Translation Committee creates fresh and authentic translations of Tibetan practice texts and commentaries in English and other Western languages; translates from a variety of other genres of Tibetan Buddhist literature, including biographies, songs of realization, philosophy, and culture; publishes those texts to ensure quality and consistency; teaches and transmits practices, to increase students' understanding of their significance and cultural background; and helps with the presentation of Buddhist and Shambhala ceremonies and practices.

Daytrippers is a registered charity led by a volunteer group of young professionals dedicated to giving back to the community. Daytrippers-sponsored trips are often the only vehicle through which underprivileged children can explore the world beyond their neighbourhoods and gain new perspectives on the world. Thanks to funds raised by Daytrippers, inner-city children have visited conservation areas, gone camping, and walked through a forest for the first time. And children from rural areas have visited Parliament in Ottawa, the Royal Ontario Museum, and many other cultural institutions that are inaccessible in their home environment. We cannot run these trips without your help. Halton Learning Foundation's objective is to raise charitable funds to remove economic barriers to learning for students in need and support school initiatives. As each has its own community, students and families, fundraising revenues generated within a school varies from school to school. In a number of communities, school council/parents are unable to raise any significant amount of money to help with additional purchases above and beyond core education funding. Funds raised by the Halton Learning Foundation are available to help schools that need additional assistance. Funds raised by the Foundation are directed to eliminating barriers to learning for students and classroom enrichment; not to administration or capital projects. The Halton Learning Foundation is incorporated as a registered charity and as an independent body collaborating with the Halton District School Board. The Halton District School Board has over 50,000 students and 95 schools in Halton Region.

The Children's Book Bank provides free books and literacy support to low- income children in the greater Toronto area from its storefront location in Regent Park. The Children’s Book Bank is like a magical children’s bookstore, except that books are given free of charge to children and their families. We believe that book ownership is essential to early literacy and a life-long love of reading. Unfortunately, studies show that many low-income families cannot afford to purchase books. At the same time, many families and organizations have quality children’s books that they no longer need. Our organization connects demand and supply to ensure that all children can experience the joy, dignity and enrichment associated with book ownership. Roots to Harvest is a not for profit and charitable organization based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. We are about food, about young people, about community, and about doing things in good ways. The first time a person learns where food comes from; the life changing experience of serving those in need; the heat of a greenhouse; the dirt under your fingernails; the feel of a handful of red wiggler compost worms; the first seedlings… This is Roots to Harvest. It's about learning, growing, inquiry & getting dirty. Young people connect with mentors & experts in the community to explore the food system from many different sides – production, distribution, access, culture, and sustainability.
