The Food Bank, founded in 1973, provides food and other products to people seeking food assistance throughout Los Angeles County. The Food Bank also conducts hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocates for public policies that alleviate hunger. With the help of 31,000 volunteers and financial supporters, the Food Bank distributed over 60 million pounds of food in 2011 including 14 million pounds of fresh produce.
