In accordance with the Statement of Purpose, Article II of the Constitution, adopted by the McLean County Historical Society; it is the Mission of this society to educate the general public on the history of the people of McLean County by operating museums and libraries which provide exhibits, public programs and research collections; to develop publications; and to acquire and preserve collections which reflect the diversity of McLean County. This Mission is implemented through the accomplishment of the following:To educate the public through the interpretive exhibition of objects and to develop public educational programs in association with the people and institutions of our community.To acquire, in conformance with the collections policy, objects, papers, periodicals, and books which reflect all segments of the community and to preserve these collections through proper storage and conservation measures, and to exhibit them in secure environments.To support research in local and family history by making books, manuscripts, and databases accessible and to support the same by providing the professional staff assistance and guidance in the course of such research.To publish popular and scholarly works.To encourage public support of the museum through donation of time and money by all segments of the community.To interpret and to encourage the preservation of historic buildings and sites.To continually pursue professional standards through participation in state and national museum and heritage organizations and to remain an American Association of Museums (AAM) accredited institution.Approved by the Board of Directors September 20, 1995.

The mission of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum (AAHOM) is to inspire people to discover the wonder of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEaM). Our vision is to be the leader in imaginative and interactive learning experiences. Thanks to a steadfast belief in the power of STEaM when placed in the hands of pre-K through 8th graders, we enjoy one of the highest annual attendance rates at a science center in the State of Michigan: over 290,000 visitors in the last year. We have over 7,750 family members, demonstrating the value they find in our exhibits and programs. Over 5.4 million visitors have visited AAHOM since it opened its doors in 1982, making it one of the most popular science centers in the State of Michigan. In the last fiscal year (October 1, 2014-September 30, 2015), 73% of AAHOM visitors came from five counties in Southeast Michigan as follows: Washtenaw (32.8%), Wayne (22.7.%), Oakland (13.6%), Livingston (3.4%), and Macomb (3.4%). Our outreach programs serve the State of Michigan and northern Ohio. In the last fiscal year, we delivered 518 outreach programs. Distance learning programs reach schools through the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
The Marquette Maritime Museum mission is to preserve and protect the maritime history of Marquette, Lake Superior and the Great Lakes and remember the exploits of our submarine veterans.
The Yankee Air Museum dedicates itself to educating individuals through the history of American aeronautics, aerospace industry and its associated technologies while inspiring generations through personal experiences to instill pride in our national accomplishments.
Our mission is preserving Michigan's railroad history, starting with the Clinton Branch Railroad, laid in 1837 and the first branch line of the first railroad west of the Alleghany mountains. We also preserve historic railroad equipment, records and artifacts focusing on the tristate area (Michigan, northern Ohio and northern Indiana) and the New York Central Railroad, which owned the Clinton Branch.
