Some of examples helping families: -A mother and son receiving assistance for transportation to an all day celebration. They had not left their apartment, together, for more than 18 months. More examples: One young woman found “renewed mobility and independence” when we helped upgrade her prosthetic leg. She lost her leg due to osteo-sarcoma and must replace her prosthetic as the device ages or her body changes. This hardworking, determined young woman just wants to continue working and enjoying life in her mid-20s. A seven-year-old girl, who within weeks of being diagnosed with cancer, lost her mother to COVID. Graciously, her aunt and uncle stepped in to take over her care. The additional strain on the household caused them to need a little help with utilities. The support we provided was just a small part of helping this family through their time of grief. Within our childhood cancer community there are families who have lost their child. A mother who went through the heart-wrenching journey of cancer then losing her child and did not have enough money to pay to move her son’s body from the hospital morgue. The hospital staff was looking to start a collection between staff, anything to help this mom pay the fees. We knew immediately we had to pay in full the remainder of the statement.
