Pledge to make a difference, together.
The Village Method is a holistic approach to enhance the individual, interpersonal, and community relationships between culture, education, and inclusion of families of African ancestry.
Our mission is to build capacity for social change and advancement in Black communities combining family, school, and community engagement to promote child development and improve student achievement.
We do this using a multi-pronged approach combining youth development, family engagement and community outreach.
TVM Scholars used to come to the room drained and out of energy. When asked why they hadn't eaten lunch, and some said " we'd rather have recess than wait in line for nasty food". When they came to our classroom, they'd have food from Popeyes and the street vendor's expensive snacks. That is, until we introduced our Healthy Meal Program. Today, TVM Scholars explore culinary arts while learning how to eat healthy. Every-now and then we add a Taco Salad Tuesday.
This initiative is so young scholars get a glimpse of college life, leadership, career exploration, community service, and being valued as thought leaders. We believe youth who are trained to be ethnographers, oral historians, community advocates, and ultimately advise policy and practices impacting at the city, county and state levels.
