Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) - translated as Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian organisation founded by doctors and journalists in 1971 in Paris. Our teams are made up of tens of thousands of health professionals, logistic and administrative staff - bound together by our charter. We are a global movement, with staff from over 160 countries. MSF provides medical relief to the victims of war, disease and natural or man-made disaster, without regard to race, religion, or political affiliation. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence and neutrality. We are a non-profit, self-governed, member-based organisation. The association's independence is guaranteed by the fact that it is funded 99% privately, mainly by individual donors and companies. MSF is an international movement of associations organised in 23 sections and 6 operational centers. The executive entities (sections and delegated offices) are linked to one of MSF's operational centers: Amsterdam (OCA), Barcelona-Athens (OCBA), Brussels (OCB), Geneva (OCG) and Paris (OCP). Operations are run from these centers. Each operational center has its own patterning with its partner sections. Since 2019, an association has been added to the list of entities that can lead operations: WaCA (West and Central Africa). 91.2% of our expenses are directly allocated to the social mission, with only 8.4% of operating & fundraising expenses. MSF makes financial transparency and rigorous management of its accounts a priority. The 3 audits of the Cour des Comptes (The French Court of Auditors) in 1998, 2004 and 2010 resulted in particularly commendable reports. Logistical strength: MSF Logistique (located in Merignac, France), is a dedicated entity created in 1986. The Merignac base is one of the world's largest centres for the transport of humanitarian supplies, with 18,500 m of storage space. It allows us to be very responsive in our operations, with the possibility of sending more than 100 tons of emergency supplies in 24 hours. Driving change: new approaches for greater impact. How To Save Millions Of Lives With A Simple MP3 Player The solar-powered device developed by URIDU is used to provide health education to illiterate rural women in developing countries Every six seconds a child under five dies. Almost all of those deaths occur in developing countries - and most of them are entirely preventable. Millions of lives could be saved just by providing illiterate rural mothers with accessible health education. Unfortunately, bringing this knowledge to remote locations has so far been an enormous challenge for both governments and NGOs. A new project is tackling that problem with a groundbreaking solution based on solar-powered MP3 players. The so-called MP3forLife Player has been developed by URIDU (www.uridu.org), a German non-profit social enterprise. Each player contains more than 400 carefully selected answers to questions about health, nutrition, family planning, child care, work safety and many more topics. All texts are translated with the help of more than 10.000 volunteers from over 100 countries who participate in a unique crowdsourcing effort. Once the information has been translated it is recorded by a native speaker of the target language. Local NGOs are taking care of distributing MP3forLife Players free of charge to women in need. We conceived the MP3forLife Player for small group listening - it fosters discussion, exchange and group building", explains Felicitas Heyne, psychologist and founder of URIDU. LEGIBE, is a registered non-profit NGO, founded in May 2022 to empower vulnerable girls and teenage mothers in our community on the shores of Lake Victoria in Mukono District. Our vision is to improve the quality of life for vulnerable girls and teenage mothers in our community through our programs, as listed below: 1. Mental Health: The vulnerability of our community girls gives them stories to tell. Many of them have experienced rape, domestic violence, sexual abuse, family rejection, being orphaned, poverty, and diseases, eg, HIV/AIDS. Through our Mental Health program, we strive to support vulnerable girls and teenage mothers in our community by providing counseling after they share their stories. We regularly conduct counseling sessions, inviting counselors and women activists to speak with the girls, and encourage them to leave their past challenges and focus on their new life and what they want to become in the future. Through this program, their hope is restored, and they feel at home in their new life. 2. Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD): Through Music performances, Let The Girl Be-Uganda, helps to create a platform for girls and young mothers in the community to tell stories, share experiences, and create performances about our community's pressing challenges, like the girl-child education, diseases associated with poor sanitation, family planning, etc. These performances, therefore, act as a mobilizing tool to identify these community issues for awareness campaigns and prevention strategies. 3. Community Outreach Program: This program aims to work in partnership with the community members, especially local leaders and mothers/ guardians of the girls. We reach out to them regularly for sensitization and awareness creation about major issues affecting women and girls in our community. 4. In the Self-Sustenance program, girls learn sewing, knitting, and other skills that will enable them to have an income and become economically independent. The Education Program helps girls attend school. This program is currently paused.
