The mission of CASA of San Mateo County is “to ensure that all children under the protection of the court have a consistent and caring adult who speaks on their behalf and helps them reach their full potential”. Aware of the extreme trauma experienced by children and youth who have been severely abused and neglected, taken from their homes and overburdened Child Welfare System, CASA of San Mateo County pairs a compassionate, dedicated and trained individual with a child or youth, who is in the foster care and/or delinquency system, providing the child/youth with stability, consistency and a sense of normalcy while ensuring that the child/youth needs are met in a timely and appropriate manner.
The Anacortes Family Center's mission is to serve homeless women, children and families in crisis by providing shelter in addition to comprehensive transformational services to achieve long lasting personal success and self-sufficiency, and to prevent homelessness in our community through advocacy and by providing affordable housing options. AFC's unique approach has led to the distinction of being one of the most successful shelters in the state at helping clients achieve self-sufficiency. Last year AFC served the most vulnerable clients* and over 80% of our clients graduated successfully - finding a permanent place to call home and a job to support the household.*Measured with the objective tool used by all homeless programs called the “Vulnerability index”.
Jessie's Place is a child advocacy center where investigative efforts of law enforcement and DCF are coordinated and supported with collaboration from community partners of multiple disciplines. In our child-friendly facility, abused and neglected children of Citrus County, Florida receive specialized forensic interviews and medical exams. The children and their families receive advocacy services and trauma-focused, evidence-based therapy to help heal the trauma and begin their journey to recovery. Indian youth are in vital need of resources and support. Young adults who grow up in orphanages and residential care are uniquely at risk for crime, low educational and professional attainment, mental health issues, suicide, homelessness, and early mortality. We come alongside these young adults and provide wrap-around services including counseling, financial support, and professional networking to help them build bright futures.
The Gender Equality Law Center (GELC) is a 501(c)(3) Brooklyn-based non-profit law and advocacy center committed to advancing laws and policies that promote gender justice and racial equity in all aspects of public and private life. Using an intersectional lens, we break down barriers that limit opportunities for low-income women, LGBTQ and gender non-conforming individuals on the basis of gender and/or sexual orientation as well those that are created by institutionalized discrimination and stereotyping. In order to bring about the most effective change, we use a unique blend of strategies, including: 1) direct legal services and impact litigation; 2) community focused trainings and organizing; and 3) legislative and systemic policy advocacy.
