The Firefighters Burn Institute is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded by Sacramento Fire Captain Cliff Haskell and the Sacramento Area Firefighters, Local 522 in 1973 for the purpose of establishing a local burn treatment facility; providing recovery programs for burn survivors; promoting fire and burn prevention through public education; funding education for medical burn team professionals, firefighters, and burn survivors; and supporting burn treatment and rehabilitation research.

TMHA Mission Statement: A nonprofit organization serving San Luis Obispo and North Santa Barbara Counties, TMHA is dedicated to eliminating stigma and promoting recovery and wellness for people with mental illness through work, housing, community and family support services. Thanks to a 1979 document titled "The Model for California Community Mental Health Programs," our state had enough evidence to emphasize the importance of quality mental health care, community participation, attention to rural and minority populations, and resources without barriers. From acute and emergency care to case management and outreach services, The California Model inspired state grants to incorporate a wider range of mental health care to all consumers at different stages of recovery. 25 counties ultimately received grants to establish these programs. San Luis Obispo was one of them.
