Traditionally a college for women, and one of the first colleges to confer a college degree to women, SEU was founded by the Sisters of Charity in 1899, with a mission to be a community of learning in the Catholic liberal arts for students of diverse ages, backgrounds, and cultures. SEU will be nationally recognized for its academic excellence and commitment to developing leadership in our underserved student body. The University operates on two campuses in Lodi and Rutherford, New Jersey. The University is one of the institutions of higher learning conducted by the Felician Sisters in the United States. Founded by the Felician Sisters of Lodi, New Jersey, it began as Immaculate Conception Normal School with the first summer session commencing on July 5, 1923.
