The GEANCO Foundation

Established in 2005, The GEANCO Foundation saves and transforms lives in Africa. We conduct complex surgical missions and run an innovative program to fight anemia in Nigeria. Through our system of modern, solar-powered rural maternal clinics, we help poor, vulnerable pregnant women safely deliver healthy babies. In addition to donating laptops, tablets, books, medicine and sports facilities to schools, our David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship for Girls provides full tuition, healthcare, and social & psychological support to young female survivors of terrorism and gender inequality in Nigeria. CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort)

Founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) was initially established as J/P HRO in response to the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Since then, CORE has scaled exponentially as a global humanitarian organization working to meet the growing needs of vulnerable communities worldwide. We’ve worked on five continents responding to natural disasters, conflict, food insecurity, disease outbreaks, climate change, and public health emergencies. Powered by local staff, CORE adapts our programs to the dynamic needs of communities as they evolve in and beyond crises. We’re a nimble organization that quickly adapts to communities’ needs as they evolve. The mission of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community.To fulfill our mission we: Source and acquire food and other products and distribute to people in need through charitable agencies or directly through programs; Energize the community to get involved and support hunger relief; Conduct hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocate for public policies that alleviate hunger.Our vision is that no one goes hungry in Los Angeles County. The Food Bank, founded in 1973, provides food and other products to people seeking food assistance throughout Los Angeles County. We also energize the community to get involved and support hunger relief through volunteerism, food and fund drives, financial and in-kind support. The Food Bank also conducts hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocates for public policies that alleviate hunger. With the help of 31,000 volunteers and financial supporters, the Food Bank distributed over 60 million pounds of food in 2011 including 14 million pounds of fresh produce. We serve over 1 million individuals throughout Los Angeles County each year. The Food Bank also has nutrition education classes for local schools. Additionally, we make every effort to educate the public about the problem of hunger.
