PLANET IN FOCUS FOUNDATION

The Planet in Focus Foundation supports the charitable activities of the Planet in Focus: International Environmental Film & Video Festival. Planet in Focus screens and promotes outstanding and compelling films and videos (documentaries, dramas, experimental and animation) covering a broad range of environmental themes by Canadian and International filmmakers. We aim to promote the use of film and video as catalysts for environmental awareness, discussion, and engagement on the ecological and social health of the planet. The Festival also hosts panel discussions, workshops, a school touring program and a children's program. Planet in Focus also operates a youth environmental video production program called Youth Camera Action!

In Canada the rapid grow of the High-Tech Industry has led to a drop in the cost of computers, accelerating disuse and saturation of local market. As a result of this situation, the majority of used computers go to landfills. But still these computers may have a second life and last 5 years or more.

High Park Initiatives (HPI) works to facilitate the protection, conservation and ecological restoration of High Park's woodland, savannah and wetland ecosystems. Our mandate is achieved through carrying out and providing support for various innovative restoration, public education and research programs. The main vehicle through which HPI functions is the High Park Nature Centre. This award-winning environmental education centre located within High Park aims to offer an enriched educational experience that will have a long-term impact on individual attitudes toward the natural environment and contribute to the protection of High Park’s rare and significant natural areas.

The Canary Research Institute realizes its mission by: 1. Undertaking scientific and social research; 2. Publishing, promoting and distributing the results of the Institute’s research in articles, journals and monographs and by developing and delivering workshops and seminars to disseminate the results of the Institute’s research; and 3. Providing seminars and workshops for rural and remote communities dealing with the impacts of mining. The Canary Research Insitute has a sister organization, MiningWatch Canada that, among other activities, works to change the laws that enable destructive mining practices. MiningWatch Canada is registered as a non profit organization, rather than a Charity, as part of its mandate is to advocate for responsible mining.

HomeStart Foundation

We are a nonprofit Christian humanitarian organization. We receive donated usable furniture - nearly any furniture a person or family needs to set up a home. Then we distribute those donated items to families and individuals who are doing just that: re-establishing a household after a period of homelessness. HomeStart Foundation provides these basic items, free of charge, to people who have been homeless, with the goal of helping them achieve self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and long-term stability.

The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust Conservancy currently protects over 2200 acres of wilderness, including Blueberry Mountain, one of the Seven Wonders of Lanark County. This property receives hundreds of local, Canadian and international visitors annually, demonstrating how MMLTC influences communities beyond its catchment area. While faithful to its core land conservation mission, MMLTC is also committed to providing the both rural and urban communities opportunities to take advantage of the full educational, physical, mental and spiritual benefits of immersion in the rich natural worlds of these wilderness properties. This more holistic community approach encourages the healthy integration of Nature into daily life and fosters support for conservation and the environment.

SOCIETE DE CONSERVATION DU CORRIDOR NATUREL DE LA RIVIERE AU SAUMON (SCCNRS)

Selected because of exceptional geo-physical characteristics, large tracts of unfragmented forest and significant amount of biodiversity, the rivière au Saumon watershed is a privileged eco-region for the creation of a protected natural corridor. Using an individual voluntary conservation approach, based on a scientific methodology, the SCCNRS provides a conservation solution that is flexible enough to respond to the needs of an individual landowner’s use of their property while meeting the SCCNRS’s conservation objectives for target species and habitats. This is acheived by identifying the areas of greatest ecological value on each property and assuring their protection using conservation tools adapted to the personal objectives of individual landowners.

SQUAMISH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Squamish Community Foundation is an independent, charitable organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life for the community members of Squamish. The foundation was created in 2003 to meet the needs of our growing community through the establishment of a locally-based long term institution. We manage funds given to us by donors in our community and distribute the income from those endowed funds to local registered charities for community projects. Squamish Community Foundation belongs to the Community Foundations of Canada, a group of 165 community foundations across Canada. The Squamish Community Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors which is made up of community leaders who are Squamish residents and whose carried backgrounds are intended to be representative of Squamish’s diversity.
