Our primary goal is to work with families to promote the health and development of children age six and under. We do this by providing a community-based program that is built on the needs identified by the families we serve. We are currently running programs such as parenting groups, prenatal information, life skills, community kitchens, breastfeeding support, home visiting and child development. We currently have two Family Resource Centres in Thunder Bay. We have been in operation since 1995 and received our charitable designation in April of 1998.

Food for Life is a registered charitable organization that assists in filling the gap between social assistance and living costs by providing nutritious food to families in need. Seven days a week, we collect surplus perishable food from both retail and wholesale food suppliers. Our emphasis is on fresh food that we can deliver quickly to those in need through our network of over 100 community agencies and outreach programs. Food for Life is able to divert approximately 2 million pounds of food annually from landfills and direct it to more than 20,000 people in need each month in Halton region. Our volunteers assist us in remaining extremely lean in our operation which ensures the maximum amount of donated funds go to our programs. These efficiencies allow us to allocate 93% of funds received to our programs and just 7% to management and administration. Furthermore, Food for Life is able to convert a $1 donation into more than $11 worth of food.
When there is no cure, there is still support, care and compassion.....there is hospice. This is one of Philip Aziz Centre's key messages as a Hospice organization to make sure that no one (patient or their caregivers) should have to journey alone with a serious illness. This is why we advocate for, and efficiently deliver, quality, timely hospice care that is a necessary part of our health care system.Expanding upon our 17 years of hospice care, Emily's House , a 10-bed, family centred children's hospice, the first in the GTA, will open in January 2013.This hospice will service children and their families across Ontario who require a third care alternative to a hospital bed or 24/7 home care, which is not always available or can just be too much for the families to deal with. Whether a life is measured in days, weeks, months or even years, children living with a life-limiting diagnosis deserve the oportunity to learn, play, develop and grow....to just be kids.
