Our mission is to connect the rich literary traditions and resources of Greater Boston, building relationships among its artists and authors, by empowering, enabling, and amplifying the voices of unheard and underserved populations through free collaborative workshops, public readings, literary journals, video publications, and public exhibits that showcase their work and encourage personal reflection and re-vision, by both author and audience, while sharing their stories with the world. Our workshops are intended to expand access to literary arts for everyone, including those marginalized, stigmatized, or isolated by the challenges of addiction recovery, disability, trauma, sickness, injury, poverty, and mental illness.

Kartemquin Films is a home for independent filmmakers developing documentary as a vehicle to deepen our understanding of society through everyday human drama. Focusing on people whose lives are most directly affected by social and political change and who are often overlooked or misrepresented by the media, Kartemquin's films open up a dialogue, both in communities and between the general public and policymakers. Kartemquin documentaries are supported by civic engagement strategies that are developed with local and national partners to foster understanding, change thinking, and build support for social change. As a locally and nationally-recognized media arts organization, Kartemquin acts as a trusted bridge between communities and the media, fosters the growth of emerging filmmaking voices passionate about social issues and media policy, and encourages staff and stakeholders to play a role in advocating for a strong public media.

Our primary purpose is to increase public awareness of women’s achievements and their roles in history and to provide positive public images of women and girls. To fulfill these purposes, Wild West Women, Inc. will, with a particular emphasis on films concerning women’s issues, women’s history and women creators: produce educational films and accompanying educational materials; distribute educational films and videos to the general public; provide training in independent and educational film making, with special efforts to include women and girls of diverse cultures; and provide and sponsor other public educational film, video and arts activities. The Baron Jay Family Foundation is a 501(c)(3) federally tax exempt nonprofit organization that was legally incorporated in 2004. We are committed to promoting health awareness, relationship guidance, employment preparedness arts education, and financial literacy in economically distressed and underserved communities. We host workshops and programs for at-risk youth that prepare them to become responsible, civic-minded, respectful, and productive citizens. We also sponsor free training programs in computer skills training and English literacy to local communities in underdeveloped regions of the world such as West Central Africa. One of our main goals is to increase digital literacy through computer skill development in poverty stricken communities. All of our workshops are designed to give our beneficiaries practical life-skills that promote self-esteem, empathy, stress reduction, anger management, academic improvement, and civic leadership. Our mission is to motivate and empower economically disadvantaged individuals — especially youth — to become productive and contributing members of society by providing: • Life skills education in healthy habits and harmonious relationships. • Culturally enriching experiences that promote self-esteem, good citizenship, leadership qualities, and empathy for others. • Extracurricular workshops in job preparedness, computer training, and financial literacy to help reduce the achievement gap and the global digital divide.

Launched in 1995, Free Speech TV is an independent, publicly-supported multi-platform digital media pioneer. Using both television and the Internet, Free Speech TV inspires viewers to become civically engaged to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable society. Promoting voices and perspectives under-represented in the media, FSTV broadcasts and webcasts independently-produced programs addressing social, political, cultural, and environmental issues. Featured programs include Democracy Now!, The Thom Hartmann Program, Gay USA and investigative documentaries. FSTV airs on DISH Network (9415), DIRECTV (348), Roku and community cable affiliates. Programming streams on www.freespeech.org and is syndicated on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. FSTV broadcasts are commercial-free and viewer supported. Free Speech TV is owned and operated by Public Communicators.

The CPI recognizes that the fundamental requirement for true democracy is that citizens are well informed and that there are independent entities with the capacity to control the powers that act in society, whether public or private.
