Computers for Schools - Newfoundland and Labrador

Computers for Schools (CFS) was created in 1993 by the Federal Government and the TelecomPioneers to give Canadian youth greater access to computer technology helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in a knowledge-based society. The CFS program in Newfoundland and Labrador collects, repairs and refurbishes donated surplus computers and distributes them to schools, libraries and other non-profit organizations. In addition to coordinating computer donors and recipients, CFS oversees three repair and refurbishment centres throughout the province. These centres are staffed by volunteers, students and recent post-secondary graduates of technical programs. Canada’s economic future depends on educating and training our young people to fill the knowledge-based jobs of tomorrow. If the next generation of Canadians is technologically literate and skilled, Canada will compete and succeed in the global market.

JARDIN D'ENFANTS SOLEILLERIE INC.

La Soleillerie is a non-profit organization that has been active in the community since 1968. Its educational program is based on play, a method, which allows children to develop their creativity and encourages them to express themselves. Through these experiences, children learn perseverance and the joys of working together with others; they discover a sense of pride in succeeding, which enhances self-esteem. Each of the many play areas provides children with the opportunity to explore, question, share, solve, try, try again, fail and succeed... La Soleillerie offers children a wonderful opportunity to develop and grow in a creative environment where parents play an active role. Supporting La Soleillerie is not only a gift to the school, but to children as well, both current and future.

Testaments of Honour Historical Archive

The Testaments of Honour Project’s mandate is to record, on digital video, the personal histories of Canadian veterans — for our children, for students, for our families, and for the veterans themselves. This way, we ensure that the thread of experience is nurtured and kept alive — through the veterans telling their own stories in their own words. These hundreds of interviews on digital video will ensure that the remarkable individuals who forged the history in those formative years will always be able to say to us, in their own words, “This Happened to Me.”
