Safe Haven for Animals (SHFA) is a no-kill, feline rescue and sanctuary. We are a privately run rescue which is completely reliant upon donations. We do not receive government grants nor corporate sponsorship. Additionally, all of our workers are volunteers. No one draws a salary. This means that every dollar you give goes directly to helping the kitties. Generous donations help us care for as many abandoned kitties as possible.

It is our mission, as an independent non-profit organization, to work in conjunction with the Lake County sheriff’s office animal services, other local shelters, and animal advocacy groups to enhance the quality of life and shelter living conditions for shelter animals and to improve the prospect of these animals transitioning to a forever home. In working together, we will increase the rate of live release, decrease the shelter animals’ length of stay, and provide a more pleasant experience for the animals entrusted to the care of the shelter. We will realize this goal through charitable fund-raising, community outreach, volunteer and foster recruitment, medical sponsorships, and promotion of adoption. L.E.A.S.H., Inc. encourages compassion, enrichment, and care for shelter animals in our community.

At Forgotten Cats, our mission is to reduce the unwanted cat population without killing and to stop the suffering of the thousands of kittens born to abandoned, homeless cats. We do this by working with colony caretakers to trap, sterilize, vaccinate, and return every cat within a colony. We provide the necessary medical treatment for sick or injured feral cats, stray cats, and kittens. We are working to find homes for adoptable cats and kittens. We also provide education about spay neuter, and we are assisting other cat rescue groups with trap, neuter, and return programs.
Chicago Canine Rescue (CCR) was founded in 2001 to help find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in our city. Each dog under our care is treated to a healthy, healing environment. Our qualified and educated professionals provide specialized medical treatment, plus training and adoption services. In its first ten years, CCR has saved over 3,500 dogs, many with special needs. CCR works with the Midwest's largest shelters to rescue animals that are in danger of euthanasia. In addition to caring for healthy and easily adoptable dogs, CCR - unlike most other shelters - also rescues dogs that frequently passed over for adoption, such as a sick or injured animal, a senior dog, or an animal with a manageable illness or disability.
