BEAR CONFLICT SOLUTIONS INSTITUTE (formerly Karelian Bear Shepherding Institute of Canada)

Bear mortality related to human conflicts is perhaps the largest single factor affecting long-term population viability. As human populations continue to extend into bear habitat throughout North America, either through residential development, recreational use or industrial use, bear human conflicts increase. Our organization aims to reduce human caused bear mortality and incidents of human-bear conflict. This is achieved through specialized training courses and innovative applied research. We are involved in a variety of initiatives that focus on reducing people’s interactions with bears while living, working and recreating in bear country. These include our unique Bearproof Garbage Bin Loaner Program, Bear Hazard Assessments, and Natural Attractant Management. Please see www.bearconflict.org for more information.

PAWS AND CLAWS ANIMAL RESCUE FOUNDATION

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation volunteers take needy dogs, puppies, cats and kittens into their own homes and provide loving care until a suitable home is found. Very few animals in this area are spayed and neutered, so the animal population grows exponentially. The statistic is if all a female dog's puppies survive and continue to breed, in five years sixty-five hundred puppies will be born. One cat gives rise to four hundred fifty thousand kittens in seven years. Previous to our spay campaign, the only thing that checked the animal population on these two reserves was deaths due to predation, harsh winters, starvation, diseases and parasitic infestations. Paws and Claws Animal Rescue volunteers are dedicated to changing this situation. Three years ago Paws and Claw began a spay program, free to residents on the Sunchild and O'Chiese Reserves. We have spayed approximately three hundred dogs and cats in this time. Please help us spay more dogs and cats!

CAT LOVERS RESCUE GROUP

Cat Lovers Rescue Group is a non-profit, charitable organization whose focus is the rescue of stray and homeless cats. We adhere to a strict no kill policy and provide necessary humane and caring support until placement in a permanent loving home can be arranged. In the absence of placement in a home, we also arrange for cats to be sheltered in a safe, clean, maintained outside environment.

OKANAGAN COLLIE RESCUE SOCIETY

Okanagan Collie Rescue is a registered non-profit society which operates primarily in British Columbia and Alberta. Because the historical roots of the society are in the Okanagan, we have retained the name. OCR is dedicated to providing shelter and care to purebred and mixed-breed collies who have been abandoned or place into shelters. Our goal is to match these ‘castaway’ collies with families who will provide a safe, loving and permanent home. We have successfully placed collies of all ages - from young adults to seniors requiring a safe haven for their golden years. OCR fosters its rescued collies in private homes throughout British Columbia and Alberta, and assists with transportation and placement of collies from other areas of Canada and the United States.

COMPANION ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT

Volunteer-run, we are dependent on public donations to fund programs. There is no shelter facility at this time: we run a network of foster homes. Many animals are left to fend for themselves without shelter or food. Some are ferals, others were abused, abandoned or neglected animals, who were lucky enough to survive prior to our intervention. Many are the product of people who were not responsible enough to have their animals fixed. Kittens and puppies have been found in trash bags and sealed boxes in garbage dumpsters. They were deemed disposable. How tragic that such a low value is placed on life in our society and that certain people cannot overcome their ignorance and insensitivity, to find some decency within themselves. Their callous acts reflect on us all: Tolerance for either their deliberate brutality or mindless indifference should not be allowed to continue.

Whisker Rescue Society of Alberta

We are a no-kill organization that relies on volunteers to give every cat that enters our adoption program the time, patience, love and cuddles they need until their forever homes can be found. Each cat is vet checked, tested for Feline Leukemia, vaccinated, dewormed, spayed or neutered, and tattoo'ed or microchipped. Our love knows no age limit, and we take in newborns to seniors. We sincerely thank all those who have supported us and opened their hearts and homes! We truly feel our family extends with every adoption.

Cat Busters Animal Rescue

We are a group of volunteers and foster homes dedicated to the rescue of animals in need. We do not have a shelter. Every foster home that has space is one more animal that can be saved from the street, going in to a shelter or euthanasia.

Leo Rescue Canada

We are a volunteer-operated, not-for-profit charity. Since the needs of the dogs that come to us are paramount, we match each dog to a potential adopter based on its needs and how well that person meets those needs. For this reason, all adopters must complete an extensive questionnaire and undergo a home and property visit prior to an adoption being approved. Except in extenuating circumstances, our dogs live with foster families until adopted. These families work hard to ensure the dogs in their care get all of the love and attention needed to help them recover from their previous lives and prepare them for life with a new family. Prior to adoption, our dogs are spayed/neutered and their vaccines updated. All other medical needs are taken care of as well. Sometimes this includes extensive surgery and after care. Without donor support this wouldn't be possible. We are grateful for their generosity. Please visit us at www.LeoRescueCanada.com
