Ashley Educational Trust was set up in 1978 to promote educationalprojects which foster a greater appreciation of personal freedom andresponsibility along with an effective concern for others. It encouragesyoung and old alike to volunteer their time and skills for serviceprojects and provides opportunities to help increase their socialawareness. We believe Christian principles contribute to characterdevelopment and are the basis of good society, and we try to fostervirtues such as loyalty, service and integrity in all of our activities.Coniston Hall university residence and Ashley Catering establishment aremajor projects of AET. Coniston offers a range of opportunities tocomplement the university experience and contributes to the all-rounddevelopment of young women. In addition to an atmosphere conducive tostudy and intellectual enquiry, it provides possibilities of culturaland spiritual development. From day one, educational projects for thebenefit of the local community have been promoted from Coniston Hall inLongsight, Ardwick, Hulme, Moss Side and Wythenshawe; Coniston Hallfounded one of the original homework clubs in inner-city Manchester.Over 400 residents and other students have helped thousands ofbeneficiaries.
