Pledge to make a difference, together.
Feed Our Soul is a movement for the community bringing homegrown produce directly to food desert neighborhoods. We provide a safe space for students to learn about gardening, as well as cooking their own produce. By cultivating food onsite through hydroponic technology, the harvest is 100% locally sourced, while using sustainable resources to reduce harmful emissions and protecting the planet. Our nutritional program focuses on students learning to grow, eat, share and connect through a direct and natural food supply.
Over the past 10 weeks our weekly Free Produce Giveways have allowed us to give away over 5,500 pounds of fresh food to feed over 1,200 families in the local South Los Angeles area.
Another successful Free Produce Giveaway! To date we have given over 2,500 pounds of food and have helped 525 families in our community.
With the help of the Social Justice Learning Institute and Food Forward we were able to host another successful Free Produce Giveaway! We are so grateful for the chance to offer our community members healthy options, especially now when it is so important to get proper nutrition.
The last several months we have made a great effort to alleviate some of the food insecurity and stress of our local community resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, we partner with Food Forward and the Social Justice Learning Institute to create a weekly free produce giveaway. Our goal is to ensure that those in need have access to foods that will keep them healthy during these challenging times; while maintaining social distancing and encouraging the use of reusable grocery bag. We gave over 200 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, serving over 50 families, and we'll continue doing this work until the pandemic is alleviated.
Our school gardening and cooking program has taken us to schools in South Los Angeles, specifically to districts 8, 9, and 10, to encourage Black-American and Latino families to grow healthy and sustainable food. With this goal in mind, in 2019 we installed 5 hydroponic towers, giving members of our community easier access to the healthy options that we advocate for. We have been able to reach 2,700 students from Kelso Elementary School, Augustus Hawkins High School, The Accelerated School, and Hyde Park Elementary School, with our educational workshops.
