THE MISSION OF LOAVES & FISHES IS TO GIVE FOOD WITH KINDNESS AND COMPASSION TO THOSE SEEKING ASSISTANCE WHILE PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE THEIR NEIGHBORS IN CHARLOTTESVILLE AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.
A common stereotype about people who use food pantries is that they are all unemployed. However, Amy shared that she drops her husband off to work at Staples before she drives to Loaves & Fishes. This Charlottesville native has been regularly coming to Loaves & Fishes for over two years, ever since she realized how efficiently she made it through Loaves & Fishes’ pantry. She is constantly dealing with the struggle of feeding two teenage boys. The supplemental food their family receives from Loaves & Fishes is crucial, since the $75 they receive in food stamps doesn’t last a month. Even though there are months when this client has an extra $25-$30 to spend on food, she can only take home three or four bags from the grocery store. “The price of everything is going up.”
