Our Mission

Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life, promoting well-being, and reducing poverty among underprivileged populations in Cameroon.

LISUDEV addresses the multifaceted challenges of poverty, inequality, and limited access to essential services among underprivileged populations and communities in Cameroon. These communities often face systemic barriers to clean water, adequate healthcare, quality education, sustainable agriculture, and gender equality. By addressing these issues in an integrated manner, LISUDEV aims to break the cycle of poverty, reduce vulnerability, and foster long-term community resilience and well-being. Our initiatives work towards meeting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. The organization’s work is rooted in empowering individuals and communities, particularly women and marginalized groups, to build brighter, healthier, and more self-sufficient futures.

5 months ago — Oshie - Njikwa municipality

In the rural communities of Njikwa, many adolescent girls face daily challenges—limited access to information about their bodies, lack of safe spaces to ask questions, and cultural taboos that silence conversations about Sexual and Reproductive Health. For too long, this silence has exposed young girls to early pregnancies, unsafe practices, and school dropouts. In May 2025, LISUDEV launched the ‘Empower Her Voice project’ to scale up SRHR in rural Cameroon. Together with trained community health workers, we created safe discussion circles where girls could openly share their concerns and learn accurate, life-saving information about their health. Through interactive sessions, over 300 girls gained knowledge on SRHR, menstrual hygiene, family planning, gender equality, and their rights to education and healthcare. One of the girls, Glory, shared that before the program, she didn’t know much about her body and often skipped school during her menstrual period because she lacked sanitary pads and felt ashamed. After attending LISUDEV’s sessions and receiving a dignity kit, she now attends school confidently. “Before the training, I didn’t know much about my body, my rights, or how to protect myself. I was shy and afraid to ask questions. But after the sessions, I learned a lot, from menstrual hygiene to preventing early pregnancy and understanding my health as a young girl, and also gained access to menstrual products to take care of my body. Now, I feel confident, informed, and empowered to make better choices for my future. This training has changed my life. I wish every girl in rural communities, especially the IDPs, could have this opportunity “. This program did more than share information—it restored dignity, built confidence, and gave young girls a voice. For the first time, parents and community leaders also joined the conversations, committing to support girls’ education and health.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

At Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV), we believe lasting change begins at the community level. That’s why our work is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6—where the impact is most urgent and transformative: SDG 1 – No Poverty: We empower vulnerable communities with livelihood opportunities, skills training, and local development initiatives that break the cycle of poverty and build self-reliance. SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: Through sustainable agriculture projects and nutrition programs, we support smallholder farmers, improve food security, and ensure that families—especially children—have access to healthy meals. SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being: Health is at the heart of our mission. From infrastructure development to disease surveillance and awareness campaigns (including Mpox, Malaria, and Maternal health) to training community health workers, we ensure that no one is left behind in accessing life-saving health information and services. SDG 4 – Quality Education: We invest in young people—especially girls—by providing access to education, SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) knowledge, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) programs in schools. Because when children learn, communities thrive. SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: Water is life. Our safe water and sanitation initiatives bring clean, sustainable solutions to rural communities, reducing disease and giving families the dignity of safe, accessible water.
